The Big Electron Vs. The Big Wind
On Tuesday 26th, the organists of Glasgow Cathedral will be performing a recital with a very special twist. Dr. Malcom Sim and Mr Gordon Cree will be coming head to head in a “Battle of the Organs”.
On this very special evening, the audience will be treated to some fabulous music in a beautiful setting. Highlights from the programme include the Toccata in D minor by J. S. Back, the Carmen Suit by Bizet, and appropriately for our unpredictable weather “A Church Service interrupted by a Thunderstorm” by David Clegg.
The organists facing up for the “Battle of the Organs” are extraordinarily in their own ways. Gordon Cree was classically trained in piano and voice at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow before going on to work extensively throughout the UK and abroad. He has worked with some well known performers and entertainers such as Marilyn Horne and Ken Dodd.
Dr. Malcolm Sim is the organist at Glasgow Cathedral. Playing from the age of 4, he studied with Pearl Gelfer, John Turner and Kevin Bowyer. He has played both organ and piano in many prestigious events, including the State Opening of the Scottish Parliament, the Queens Jubilee Service and the World War 1 centenary service, both held in Glasgow Cathedral and broadcast across various channels.
This is a night not to be missed. All funds raised from this recital will go towards the Glasgow Cathedral Music Department, to further the wonderful music which brings so much joy to everyone who hears it.
Tickets are priced at £8 and are available on the door which opens at 7pm.
