Last evening’s performance of Creation by the Cathedral Choir and the Glasgow University Chapel Choir was met with universal praise following a seven minute standing ovation. Performances by Charlie Drummond (Gabriel) David Lee (Uriel) Sam Carl (Raphael) Maria Hughes (Eve) and Timothy Edmundson (Adam) were all of a uniformly high calibre and the 45 singers and 41 orchestral musicians combined to produce a sound which could not help but inspire and uplift the audience of nearly 200.
The Cathedral’s Director of Music Andrew Forbes is to be congratulated on the successful production of this demanding work. His choice of staging the performance facing the Cathedral’s Great West Window with Francis Spear’s depiction of The Creation, and the evening sun streaming through the opening bars of the performance was to say the least inspired.
If you missed this performance, keep an eye on the website for the possible release of a recording (unconfirmed as yet) and put 1st September firmly in your diary for the Celebrity Organ recital by St Paul’s Cathedral organist Simon Johnson.
